Dar Mar Hostel & Coworking

Staff were super nice, breakfast was good, location was near other food spots such as Bento, Mapache, the beach. Could improve: The pool was not clean, and the food / drink options were expensive. We paid for a private room but had to sit in the dark for two hours with no air-conditioning, fan or water, until they eventually turned the generator on for that side (at 22:00), only to switch it off past midnight. The owners host a party each Saturday with blaring music, attended by very few hostel guests and mostly his friends from outside, only turning the music off at 2am. The communal area isn't that inviting, as most people ended up leaving the hostel areas to find cheaper food or drink options elsewhere.

Had the most pathetic experience in last 14 yrs of travelling Could improve: I am so angry and sad right now. Please be VERY CAREFUL if you staying in this Hostel, they are stealing your things and nobody taking responsibility! Everything is a big big joke to them!! I ask the staff where I can dry my wet clothes, they tell me "put it in that area". So I leave my swimming shorts and t-shirt there to dry. Next thing I know, it is GONE. Vanished! Someone stole it, maybe staff or someone else I don't know, but it just went missing. When I ask staff to help, they just standing around like idiots, don't know what they are doing. They lied to my face and said staff will come at 7:00 in the morning to check and look for it. I wait like a fool until 7:40 AM and NO ONE SHOW UP. Nobody came!! They just playing games with me. When I ask to speak to the owner because no one helping me, they REFUSE to connect me to owner! Total zero customer service. They don't care about guests at all. DO NOT COME HERE unless you want your clothes stolen and staff lying to you

L’extérieur et les communs sont très jolis avec piscine et coins détente petits déjeuner copieux Could improve: La salle de bain aurait besoin de quelques petits travaux changer la poire de douche qui ne tient pas sur la barre et dont le pommeau est cassé Wc qui n’est pas bien fixé au sol et qui bouge Nombreuses coupures d’électricité comme partout sur l’île, mais générateur de secours qui prend le relais pour le ventilateur.

One of the best hostels in Zanzibar, especially on the East Coast. Dar Mar has calm vibes, a beautiful design, a great pool and an amazing coworking space with good WiFi. Perfect if you want to relax and still meet people. Super clean, very friendly staff, and I ended up staying longer than planned :). Highly recommend!
