Kuoom Serengeti

Could improve: Kuoom failed at the things that matter most when you are deep in the Serengeti: a comfortable place to sleep, safe ventilation, privacy and basic hygiene. We paid for five nights and left after one. Despite not being refunded. The accommodation is a plastic dome structure with wooden beams, no proper ventilation and no practical way to cool it during the day. It became brutally hot, airless and difficult to breathe in. The only opening we found was a tiny zipped plastic section near the bathroom area, with no insect mesh, meaning guests must choose between extreme heat or opening the place they sleep to mosquitoes (potentially malaria mosquitos), tsetse flies and other insects. The bathroom layout was also unacceptable. The toilet and shower area are directly behind the bed with no door, so there is no privacy and every sound and smell is shared inside the accommodation. At over USD 700 per night for four guests in a Deluxe Quadruple Room, there was no fridge, no tea or coffee facilities, and from what we saw, the dome accommodations appeared essentially the same, regardless of how the categories are worded. The property is unfenced and open to wild animals. Guests are not permitted to leave their room without waiting for hotel staff; and large animal dung, likely buffalo, was left uncleared during our stay. The restaurant raised further hygiene concerns: poor food, ignored dietary requirements, dead insects at the tea and coffee station, wet lumpy sugar, a rusted instant coffee tin and a dirty public toilet. After asking an online question (and before booking), we received a sales call using words such as luxury, high-end, five-star and premium. That matters because the stay delivered the opposite. I have read Kuoom’s replies to negative reviews (please scroll and see for yourself), so I am keeping this factual and limited to what we personally experienced. Once you arrive this deep in the Serengeti, leaving is difficult and expensive. Kuoom will not refund.

Everything and mostly the environment, I’m into a nature and bushy places , in the middle of nowhere kinda lodges and this was one of them .. and the staffs topnotch , warm welcoms , very pleasant hospitality…. Kelvin and his staffs went out of there way to make me comfortable,thank you guys so much . Could improve: Nothing at all

Stunning location and cool set-up. We loved the view of the sunrise over the Serengeti through our dome windows. We also had the best sleep in a long time, extremely comfortable bed and bedding Could improve: The ventilation inside the dome needs some attention as it gets hot as a sauna during the day. Staff is extremely kind, yet a bit unexperienced
