My solo stay at Maku Oasis was, without question, the highlight of my Zanzibar trip and the perfect birthday weekend getaway. From the moment I arrived until checkout, every detail exceeded my expectations. The property is beautifully designed, peaceful and luxurious, with incredible attention to detail. My room was stunning, the food was exceptional, and one of my favourite experiences was enjoying breakfast with my bed opened onto the balcony overlooking the lush surroundings. It was the perfect place to slow down, recharge and truly enjoy my own company. What made this stay unforgettable, however, was the people. A heartfelt thank you to Sia and Vien at Reception for your warmth, professionalism and genuine hospitality. You made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived and took such wonderful care of me throughout my stay. To Alfred and Juma, thank you for the excellent service at the bar, your friendly conversations and the positive energy you brought every day. And to Maya, thank you for one of the most relaxing massages I’ve ever had. It was exactly what I needed and was one of the highlights of my stay. Every member of the team made me feel like more than just a guest. The thoughtful farewell gift and handwritten messages at checkout were such a beautiful surprise and the perfect ending to an unforgettable stay. As a solo traveller, I felt completely safe, genuinely cared for and incredibly relaxed. Maku Oasis gave me exactly what I was looking for—a peaceful escape to celebrate my birthday, reconnect with myself and simply enjoy the beauty of Zanzibar. We absolutely loved our stay at Maku Oasis as part of our honeymoon. Having our own private villa made it feel incredibly special, and it was the perfect place to unwind after our safari. One of the standout parts of our stay was the service. Being able to simply message the team on WhatsApp whenever we needed anything made everything so easy, and nothing ever seemed too much trouble. Whether it was organising taxis, booking massages or answering questions, the team were always happy to help. A special mention also goes to our driver, who even waited over eight hours while we were out on excursions so we had transport back to the villa. That level of service really stood out. The villa itself was beautiful. The bedroom was spacious with a huge comfortable bed, and we loved the authentic design. The indoor sand living area was something we'd never experienced before. It wouldn't necessarily be everyone's preference, but it definitely added to the unique character and feeling of staying somewhere truly connected to its surroundings. The food was also fantastic. We'd read a few reviews saying the portions were small, but we had the complete opposite experience! Breakfasts were so generous that we often saved some to snack on later in the day. The massages on our final day were another highlight and were the perfect way to finish our stay. The only thing we would have loved would have been the option to have our massages together as a couple, but with only one therapist available this wasn't possible. If we were to offer one small piece of feedback, it would be around the pool positioning. By early afternoon both our private pool and the shared pool had moved into the shade, so it would have been lovely to have a sunny spot available later into the day for relaxing. We also noticed a slight smell from the shower water at times, although this certainly didn't detract from our overall stay.
